What do I need for my first visit?
Bring your Physical Therapy prescription, your insurance card and driver’s license. You can download and fill out your registration packet. Wear or bring loose, comfortable clothing.
What shall I expect on my first visit?
Your first visit will last about an hour. We will review your history and discuss your current problem. We will perform a thorough evaluation and develop a treatment program to address your symptoms, causes, and compensations.
Why should I pick Shea Physical Therapy?
We specialize in Applied Functional Science. We don’t just treat the symptoms, we treat you as a whole to optimize your movement and address the causes of your symptoms.
Do I have to go to my doctor’s physical therapist ?
No. Where you want to go for physical therapy is your choice. Choose the best. We will communicate with your doctor throughout the course of your therapy.
Is physical therapy just exercises? I exercise already.
Physical therapy aims to restore normal function to the musculoskeletal system of the individual. A functional problem, such as inability to reach because of shoulder pain, may be a result of dysfunction in the nerves, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. The physical therapist will make a physical therapy diagnosis to determine where the pain is coming from and what structure is in dysfunction that may be contributing to the pain/problem. The therapist will then use various treatment techniques to restore function to the shoulder which may include joint mobilization/manipulation, stretching, strengthening, modalities, and soft tissue mobilization. A cookbook approach of “do these exercises if your shoulder hurts” is not physical therapy.
Do physical therapists treat only certain areas of the body?
Physical therapists are trained to treat any area of the neuromuscular skeletal system. At SheaPT we treat the causes of pain and dynsfunction not just symptoms – we have expert training and certifications to treat: jaw, neck, head, shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, back, hip, knee, and foot/ankle pain/problems.
